you have every reason to be upset! Hitting is in no way teaching a dog anything at all, only fear. The 2 dogs were sizing each other up , not fighting or anything. It is never ok to hit a dog! I agree with you. My first reastion would be wanting to protect my dog too. Nobody has the right to hit a dog or even try to dicipline somebody else's . your mother has stepped over the line . Maybe after things calm down you can talk to her. Let her know that you are the only one to handle that kind of situation and to respect you and your Callie. I wonder how she would feel if it were her dog? I bet it is even harder because your living with grandma . this is so unfortunate. I don't know why she would hit little Callie and not her own dog? Your CAllie was not doing anything bad. And she is not a bad dog. I would be furious. Even if the dogs did get into a scuffle it does not mean it is ever ok to smack one of them.
