Same for me. When Kaji was neutered 2 years ago, I dropped him off early (7am I think) and picked him up in the afternoon. We didn't have a pleasant night, but at least I was there to keep him calm and keep him from jumping around.
If no one is going to be with your baby, I would talk to the vet and insist he releases your pup. You can confine him just as well at home where you can monitor him. If you feel he is distressed, you have the option of taking him to the emergency vet; whereas at the empty vets office he won't have anyone to take him anywhere or care for him. Not that anything bad will happen. That's just my fear.
