Teasers are not required. Some send them just to "Tease" their sb while other's do not. Hint threads are not required but most of the participants do one. To me that was one of the fun things about the GE. Getting to guess who has who.
Hope that helped some. Best thing to do is go back through the old GE threads and read there. You will see what kind of gifts are sent, the hint threads and the thank you threads.
