The metal part never broke and doesn't appear to be defective at all. What I think happened is that the d-ring on the harness somehow pushed down on the button on the metal part and it opened it up. I think it was because Teddy was rolling around in the grass and maybe became undone like that. I don't think there's anything wrong with the brand...I just have to be very careful when Teddy is playing on the grass. Everything happened so fast it was terrifying. I think this wouldn't have happened if the d-ring of the harness was on his back instead of on his chest.
