I have mixed feelings about it. I was in the business for many years and that's how I supported myself and put myself thru college. I kinda think that it takes away from people who actually "wait" on people. What I mean is that when I was waitressing, my hourly wage was half of minimum wage due to tips. I think patrons get tired of feeling obligated to tip and as a result, don't tip as well.
I am not sure what salaries are these days but I would imagine that people who work at places like Subway, Starbucks, etc., make at least minimum wage--not to say that it's a lot of money. I just don't want to take away from people who traditionally work for tips. |
