I'm glad the surgery worked so well for your brother.
I don't know exactly what the surgery involves, but my doctor didn't recommend it for me. I don't know if I'm just not bad enough or what, but he feels strongly I should start out with the cpap. I think I'll google it and see what all is involved with the surgery, though.
The mask they used during the sleep study was actually much more comfortable than I thought it would be - not what I expected it would feel like at all. I'm just dreading the thoughts of having to deal with the tubing, detatching and then re-attaching everything when I have to get up during the night, and having ugly strap marks on my face every morning.
