I still say take him in, there is so much stuff in sand that could be stuck in his tummy right now. Cats poop in sand (which is like fillet Mignon for doggies *yuck!) including stray cats who haven't been treated for parasites or given vaccinations. Other animals may have relieved themselves in that sand box, along with children. If your vet doesn't want to see her, or doesn't have anything available for today, check around with other vets. The earlier you catch things the cheaper they'll be to treat.
