You definitely need to wash pee pads separately, anything you wash with them will pick up a slight scent of the pee pad, and if you ever lay it on the bed or floor, you will be telling your dog it's okay to pee on it. Joey would only use disposable pee pads one time, with washable pee pads he uses over and over. I have plenty, so I just change when I can see a mark. It's very dry here in AZ, and I keep used ones in wicker hamper, and I've never noticed an odor. Some people say they keep their used pee pads in a covered diaper container. So it depends on how strong the urine scent is, and how humid your environment is.
