Default Correspondance With Breeders/Potential Buyers

My interest is peaked by the other thread about e-mailing w/ breeders. Am I doing something wrong? Here is an e-mail I wrote to a member of the American Maltese Association (AKC breed club for Maltese):

Hi *******,

I saw your name and e-mail on the AMA website. I am not planning to
get a puppy for a few months, but I was wondering if you could give me
some information as to your breeding program, how often you have
litters, the parents weights and pedigrees, your dogs sizes and price estimates.
I have a 6lb Yorkshire Terrier neutered male who is 7 months old. I'd really like
to add a Maltese female to my home and have been searching for a
breeder with whom I feel comfortable. I know that no weight can be
guarnateed, but I am looking for a dog who is preferably smaller than
my Yorkie -- around 5lbs being ideal; obviously, a sound temperment is veryimportant to me as well. Any information you can give me would be
appreciated. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Kristy

I get in response:
I ONLY HAVE A BOY ABOUT 6 MONTHS OLD THAT IS SMALL FOR SALE NOW, HIS PRICE
IS 2000.00 AND HE HAS TO BE NEUTERED TO RECEIVE HIS PAPERS.

I write back:
I definitely want a female and I'd like to get have her when she's 12 weeks old because I've found that potty training is much easier if you start at a younger age. Thanks for your time.

Am I being rude and forward? Why can't I get a decent response from any seemingly reputable breeder? Insight anyone? This has happened numerous times when I e-mail Yorkie breeders or Maltese breeders inquiring about a female to add to my family. I always get a crappy response.
