I take it as a wonderful opportunity to get people educated on the breed. I do not find any of the comments offensive or anything else. I believe most people, including some pet owners of yorkies, are not educated enough on dogs and breeds to have more knowledgeable conversations about them.
I hope i make some of you laugh with this one:
"One day i was with my husband and my sister walking all of our 6 yorkies by the beach! Each one of us humans had 2 leashes and 2 dogs, this lady came driving by twice, and had to stop and ask why were we walking these "cats" in leashes as if they were dogs???? hahahaha.... And she proceeded to count them and and asked again why we had 6 of these "cats" in first place???? "
We all had a great laugh first, that was the first we ever got this question!!!! And looked at each other , our eyes asked "who is gonna educate her?" , so my husband went on and started the conversation, at the end that lady apologized and had a nice laugh herself. This has happened about 7 years ago at least, by the Beverly Dane st beach. I bet that lady became a yorkie lover after that !!!
The most common comment and question i get is:

" Cute puppy! What kind of dog is this? how big is it gonna get?"

I love this breed and love talking about them with anyone who may want to listen, therefore every inquiry or comment may be an opportunity to just educate people about this wonderful breed i love. When i happen to be blessed by meeting someone who knows something the conversation takes a different turn, but that is often not the case.
I was raised with different breeds of dogs and have a few generations of show breeders in my own family, still i am ignorant my self on so many breeds and some dogs i see i can not recognize the breed my self, would never be able to i do not think so.

Just a word if i may: if someone say something about your dog that sounds offensive or ignorant please do not take it personally. This person probably is just that , ignorant about the subject. Instead, do your best to leave them informed and educated, you never know, you may just bring someone else to love this breed! That is always a plus!
XOXO
