A huge rat is exactly what they look like!!! You can spot them even whlie travelling in town ialongside marshy areas. In New Orleans at one time, they even allowed people to shoot them because they were such a nuisance!!!! They eat vegetation. I know I have some photos of a mama nutria with her babies in Bayou Lafourche from about 2 years ago.
If I am not mistaken, the New Orleans Zyphers, the minor league baseball team, uses Clothile and Boudreaux as their mascots . . . . NUTRIA!!!!!!
