My mom's doxy is allergic to grass and will chew his feet in the summer when the grass is green - however, here in the winter that is probalby not the problem. He is only allergic to bermuda grass, not St. Augustine which is what I have in my yard and they live with me now so he doesn't have the allergy any longer.
