I think this is normal. My mom's cocker spaniel was sort of like that too. They can be possesive. But dogs are really smart and have personalities of their own. When my mom would come and visit me she would board her. When she got back my mom's dog would ignore her and even snob her for the first couple of days. She even did something she NEVER does.....leaving a "treat" for my mom to clean up by the front door. lol
