Anyway, breakfast it still my favorite meal(even if it is not pizza) so I am happy to scarf it down. Usually I eat a protein bar or bran cereal with no fat milk and maybe a piece of fruit for breakfast but this month I bought 2 boxes of Honey Buns and have had one of those for breakfast occasionally. Trouble is, they are tiny, have no protein and just don't fill you up but 2 would be too many so I just starve till lunch! Maybe that is why I have been craving pizza so much - those tiny honey buns just don't feed me. |
Yeah, that right, the honey buns give you a short burst of blood sugar, your body makes lots of insulin, but no protein or complex carbs to sustain it, so your blood sugar drops too low because too much insulin has been made. This is true even in healthy people without diabetes. Low blood sugar equals starvation, and makes you crave for more “simple” carbs (i.e. white sugar, white flour). Remember, simple carbs enter you bloodstream the fastest, complex carbs and protein take longer to digest, so they don’t cause an abundance of insulin.
