I just got a Marpac about a month ago. I have chronic insomnia and it has helped a lot with that. My son can have a crowd in the house and I just turn it on and can't hear them. My daughter has one and uses it in her apartment when all three other girls are making noise, and she sleeps soundly. My sister has one for each child and herself and it works like a charm. It's a non-looped white noise. I understand that the machines that have nature sounds, etc. are "looped", and while we can't actually hear them start and stop, they will interrupt sleep. I've tried those and they never helped on any level.
