The amount of food required depends on the food product. Some foods are more nutrient-dense and the dog requires less of it.

The package should indicate calories, protein, and fat content. If it is kibble, how many calories per cup?

When Max was a pup, slightly over 3 pounds at 12 weeks, he ate 3/4 cup a day of a kibble that was about 380 calories per cup.

I know from your other thread that you were concerned that your pup is gaining weight too quickly. As I responded, pups do grow very fast in the first 12 weeks, then fairly fast in the first 6 months, and then they typically slow down.

Keep in mind that restricting food will in no way stunt growth, and overfeeding will not cause your pup to grow larger, maybe chunkier.

Check with your vet about the amount you are feeding and your pup's size.
