I have a dog sitter that comes to the house and will do 10-12 hour overnight visits (licensed and insured business). I also have a retired couple in a retirement community that dog sit in their home. Both are great options for me but a little more pricey than the kennels. However, I have peace of mind when I have to go out of town. I can call in the evening to check on my babies and both of them are happy to tell me stories about how great my pups are.

Having the sitter come to the house is great and non-disruptive. Right now I have the same sitter coming to visit with the puppies everyday at noon for a bit so they are very comfortable with her. The dog sitter follows my routine with them and writes daily updates of what they did and how they were (very playful, snuggly, etc).

The retired couple will take up to four dogs at a time and they take multiple size dogs. Great for socialization. When I used to take my previous Yorkie Poppy there she used to just run into the house all excited to get to visit. She would run straight to the bedroom, up the doggie ramp and onto the puppy pillow. (Yes, she thought she was a princess - and of course, she was!!!) A little painful that she was so excited to go and stay with the "adoptive grandparents", but great that she was so comfortable with them.

If you can find a dog sitter or someone who dog sits in their home, I would recommend that if you can afford it.

Good luck
