It starts with the desire, then you become "a yorkie FANATIC" and find yourself only interested in literature about the breed. You'll move on to literature about reproduction, talk to anyone you can about it, then you start your "search". From then on, your most likely hooked for life if it's really in your blood. Having a good breeder to talk to along the way is also one of the BEST things a person can do in the beginning. (Heck I still need to talk to my breeder friends about things and seek advice to this day) You will never learn it all and your knowledge will grow as you begin to have experience. I was a yorkie owner before I ever bred them. I think most people who breed had one just as their pet prior to becoming interested in raising them. If someone just suddenly wanted to "aquire their first yorkie and immediately start producing pups" I'd have to say that is bad and probably not a person with the breeds best interest in mind. |
