i think it depends on what YOU are doing during the day.
Clover seems to follow suit to how i am doing!
when i was ill with a bad flu, i was in bed pretty much 24/7 and Clover slept with me the entire day and night. and that went on for about 4 days!
my housemate would take him for a short walk and he would go out to the back garden for toilet breaks but apart from that, he stayed in bed either dozing or just lying in bed.
also, when i'm busy concentrating on something (i work from home, crafting) he knows i am busy and falls asleep on my feet.
amazingly enough he seems to know when i'm just mooching around the house or taking a break from working, even when i'm still sat at the desk, he will wake up and bug me to play!
