Hi Lindsey, it really is a matter of personal preference. The bands may be a better option for a puppy, as they would be lighter weight. Most of my customers LOVE the gripzies for their adult dogs. My suggestion would be to order this set with bands, and one bow with a clip. If you like the clip better, you can always send your bows back for me to attach the clips, or order them from the store, and I will give instructions on how to attach them.
