An ex pen is an exercise pen. It's a place for your dog to go when you leave the house, as opposed to a kennel or cage. Here's one that I bought on Amazon (I'm happy to send you the link if you like it). Max loves to lay in there during the day because it's his comfort zone. He doesn't mind at all when I leave him there. I can fit his bed, toys, water, etc. and he has plenty of room to play and roam.
