My baby has humped a neck pillow of ours since he was very young. It's not a bad behavior unless they are humping YOU. Inanimate objects are fine. Yes it seems to be a comfort thing for the dog. There is no harm in allowing that behavior to continue. In the dog world, humping is a way to show dominance over the other animal. It's not a sexual behavior.
