We've never stopped ours from humping bc it doesn't hurt anyone, they seem to get some comfort from it, and it seems a natural need they're fulfilling. They have never sought to hump anything other than their lover dog (well, ahem, Pfeiffer
does hop on her donut bed and has private moments with it
).
These kinds of urges are natural in all living creatures...I personally don't believe in stopping it or punishing it - I think it's easy for them to be quite appropriate about the behavior. It's no different, imo, than managing our own natural inclinations in an appropriate manner.
