I use webcam xp lite and a basic webcam and can have the same system for the just the one time cost of the webcam and software for viewing online. Webcam XP lite is free but the paid version allows you to do everything they offer without a monthly fee. I am in IT but even the most novice of computer users can easily setup this up with many of the same features as the paid features without a monthly fee.
