Crystal, we had great success with our Toto and pad training with a treat and a "happy celebration"!!
They learn quickly that praise means that they have pleased you! You have to watch for the successes and just ignore the misses! Sometimes they are too close to the edge and although standing on the pad, unfortunately, the little butt is hanging off the edge .... this was an effort and deserves praise! She was two last July and we still reward her for going on her pad and telling her what a "Good Girl" she is. It does take quite a while but now if she goes & we don't happen to see it, she lets us know and we have to our celebration and she rewards
us by turning her little butt for a cleanup with a wipey!!
