I'm not talented with hair either and also picky with Macy's hair. I watched a couple of videos on the web, purchased a good clipper with a few blades and started slowly. Macy was horrible the first month I tried to groom her but I kept offering treats and kept the sessions short and didn't give up.
I do her body once a week to keep it short but once in a while when her face looks messy I take her to a groomer to just touch up her face while I wait. She goes to the vet tech for her nails if they need trimming as I don't want to do those. We walk every day on hard roads and they file her nails down naturally so she seldom needs her nails trimmed. Just this weekend she sat at my feet while I got out the clippers
and all the supplies ready. Up until then, she would take off running if I brought out the trimmer box.
I have nicked her once in 6 months but learned quickly what not to do the next time. It's also a great bonding experience. You can do it!!!
