What about the Chamber of Commerce for the city you reside in? Attend acouple Chamber meetings and get the scoop on the businesses in the City. That may be a good way to network yourself. Not sure if you can do it as an individual though. I attended Chamber meetings because I represented the bank I work for in that City. It's worth a shot though. Just get your face out there and make yourself known!

Or some 'town hall' meetings. You can get to know a lot of people by attending town halls and Chamber meetings.

Good luck!
