Yes, it sounds like she's testing your boundaries and you need to restrict her movements and assert yourself as the leader. I know dogs don't do things "for spite" (at least that's what the experts say), but my female Bichon would poop in the middle of the living room floor if I went out on the front porch to visit with someone and didn't take her. She was 100% potty trained and knew exactly what she was doing. She would be sitting beside the poop looking pleased with herself when I came back inside. She didn't hide, didn't act guilty, just pleased with herself and looking me right in the eye. They understand a lot more than most people give them credit for!
