I don't bring Roxie anywhere other than the Vet and Petsmart. I have brought her into Office Max (where they thought she was adorable) and Party City (where they asked me to leave). I find it's just easier to run errands without her. If DBF and I are out together with her and have to stop somewhere quickly, one of us will stay in the car with Roxie while the other runs into the store.
As a person who is highly allergic to cats, I would be upset if I were subjected to someone carrying their cat around in the store and causing me to have an allergic reaction. I would not want to impart that on people who may be allergic to dogs.
