I leave my dogs home when I shop. Does that make me a bad yorkie owner??? They get to come with me when I go to Petco but that is it. My dogs are my babies and they are very much part of my family, but it's ridiculous to think that they can go everywhere a human can go. They are dogs, not people..not children...
People need to have some respect for other people, and for employees who are just trying to earn a buck, and trying to enforce the rules. They really don't need a snotty response. Just say your sorry that you didn't know. Now you do know, so leave the dog home, or go to the store when the dog isn't with you.
I'm not arguing for dog owners rights in stores, nor do I get mad or snotty when people tell me she's not allowed.. But for me personally leaving the house usually is a 8-12 hour thing, not a quick 1-2 hours out and back.. So if she's not allowed I just don't shop there, end of story, no drama or retaliation or anything. I just don't go, like I said it's their choice to not allow dogs in purses in and I respect that choice. It's unlikely however that I will make a special trip all the way out to that store without my dog to shop so they are loosing business, but that's a business decision they make like any other. I don't go telling them they are loosing my business, I just stop going.

My real point is, some people have busy lives and can't be home all the time to give the proper attention and care to a dog (especially to a large breed dog, that really has to stay home due to it's size). I chose a small breed because I can take her almost everywhere, and in being able to do that I'm not neglecting her or leaving her for hours and hours alone. She gets LOTS of socialization, play time, training, love, and comfy carriers and places to take naps when mommies busy.. I just hate to see people get judged for taking their dogs in to places, if it's a rule it's a rule, but don't judge me because I choose to take my dog with me when I'm gone, and in that I also choose to not shop places that won't allow me to bring her..
It's becoming so common for busy people to bring their dogs with them that hotels, airlines, stores, resorts, and even Disney Land has a place for dogs now!
