It works. There are drawbacks though. More vaccines which is not always a good thing. It has to be given yearly. It can be very painful. There are side effects. The bacteria being kept under control is said to be a normal bacteria in the mouth (so is it a good thing to kill it and open the door to super bacteria?).
I don't use or recommend it. Best to talk to your vet about it though.
