Oh my goodness...that is crazy. Did you have a big mess to clean up or hose off?
I was on a mission trip in Mexico once and a dust storm came through. I don't know how it compared, but it was awful. We had dust/sand all over us and it was getting in our eyes and our mouths. We were outside at the time. When we went back to our campsite, our tents had sand all over inside them because we had let them vent out...not open, but the sand and dust came through the mesh windows!
