Cases, including death penalty cases, have been won with only circumstantial evidence (think Scott Peterson).
There is no requirement that the prosecution prove motive, though I believe they did. There is no requirement that the prosecution prove method of death, again, I believe they did.
Several of the jurors were reported to have left their notebooks on their seats, so they didn't even bother to refer to them during deliberations. The alt juror who spoke yesterday alluded to them discussing the case in the evenings away from the courtroom; a big no no.
