age, etc Bella is 15 weeks old. She was taken from her mom at 8 weeks and put in a kennel with her sister for 2 weeks, then at 10 weeks seperated and alone in a crate. She pooped and peed in there and ate/drank/slept also. I have always suspected that this was why she does it now. Her crate is small with a divider and was only big enough to turn around in. She still pooped/peed in there. So, she was dirty as can be everytime she was in there. She sleeps with me at night and doesn't go for 7-8 hours sometimes. But during the day, she will mess in her exercise pen or crate after just an hour or so. I have followed every single bit of 'yorkie' training advice I have found but my concern is how do I train her bladder to 'hold it' if she doesn't mind messing where she sleeps? I have tried with a blanket/towel, without. I put toys in there that get thrown away or washed. Now, I have put her kennel in her exercise pen with the door open and a towel in there so she will hopefully establish that as her 'place to sleep'. I took out the divider. When she sleeps/naps, she always goes in the kennel. She still messes, but only in the exercise pen (that has a waterproof bottom...thank goodness). We set a timer for regular trips outside and praise her a TON when she goes outside. I am not willing to paper train her. I have another big dog and don't want that in my house with him. Plus, I don't like the idea of it anyway. She never whines or barks or anything when she has to go. So, I keep working with her, but every other dog I have ever had has always whined when they need to go and doesn't mess in their 'den' AKA...crate. So, this has been very frustrating for me. Thanks again for anymore advice! I appreciate all of you so much! |
