In order for a dog to be shown @ an AKC show it has to be registered AKC. There are tons of registeries out there. My dogs are registered AKC and APR. If you are a breeder (have 3 or more females) you can register any dog that is AKC or UKC with APR for FREE, otherwise it is $15. The reason I have mine registered with the APR is that I have APR show near where I live. Their shows are not as stuffy and in most cases they have 4 shows in a 2 day span, and you can champion out your dog easier. Also if you have never shown before its a good place to get a start. Plus the registry is really easy to work with. Alot of breeders are now dual regerstering their dogs. You may want to look into it.
