AKC may set the "True Standards" if you would but IF you knew anything about showing most of your AKC show people start off showing in these types of shows to get their feet wet and learn before entering into the AKC show ring which sets such a high standard for showing. It's called a learning process! You start off slow and work your way up, teaching yourself how to show and handle your dog and learn how to start out not being nervous and ect... It is a great opportunity to learn something and start getting your name and your dogs name out there.Crosstie

Registering a dog ACA has nothing to do with showing. As far as my knowledge AKC is the only fully recognized breed register in the U.S. The others don't have the standards that AKC has for registering. Im'm not disputing that some perhaps many get their start in the show ring with this type show, my question is why would I want to dual register my AKC registered dog when it is already registered with the supreme registery.God is Great, Beer is Good, People are Crazy!!!

Just a little clarification.
Standards for AKC are written, maintained and owned by the parent clubs of each breed.
AKC is simply a registration body that maintains records for the ancestry of a dogs lineage and while
it is oldest registration body in the U.S. it is certainly not without fault.
The integrity of any registry organization is only as good as breeders who are honest when summiting
correct registrations.
Misconception most people have is that AKC dogs are superior.
AKC has nothing to do with overseeing if breeders are breeding to the standards or if they are healthy.
Again this all has to do with the breeders who breed the dogs.

To answer your question as to why someone would want to duel register a dog for showing in other venues.
Many do not care to show in AKC dog shows, they find it to political and cut throat.
When dogs win because of who's at the other end of the lead or when one cheats in order to get wins,
then the point becomes lost as to why shows were started in the first place and that is to evaluate how
close a dogs meets the written standard for breeding purposes.
Some other show venues allows one to show and have their dogs judges solely on there own merits.A house is not a home without a Yorkie !!!

So this has only to do with showing. There is no proof of breeding or standard set for the breed. Sorta like Continental Kennels Club.God is Great, Beer is Good, People are Crazy!!!

Roc most ACA dogs were AKC dogs at one time and a lot of them are both ACA and AKC. I would say that 35% or more dogs at the show had AKC papers and they got them ACA at the show. Dog show are a great way to learn more about the breed or breeds that you like. If you can attend the next show and I would love for you to bring you dog out or if you can get a AKC dog show in Poplar Bluff MO. I would love to show a dog in it.
The greatest part of the show was the kids got to show there dog even if it had no papers in the fun show for kids. This is what dog show's should be about inproving the breed and having fun at the same time. AKC is great but I can not travel and compeat again the rich dog breeders.t-bone

Yes, some registries are better then others but there is cheating in all registries concerning pure bred status
or parentage. While AKC does DNA testing some breeders can cheat the system for years before they get caught
if they ever do.
So you better know who you are dealing with, if you are relying on a certain dog to be pure bred and carry
a correct pedigree in any of the registries.

And although some registries with show venues may not have a set standard , most use the guild lines set forth by the Parent Clubs listed by AKC . Some of the show venues have a little more leniency and does allow for rare breeds not yet recognized by AKC at this time or variations in recognized breeds like coat coloring.
Other show venues are ones like UKC,NACK, IABCA, APRI
And like someone else stated showing in a less stressful venue is a good way to get your feet wet if you are thinking about showing in AKC shows or if you just want to get your dog evaluated to know you are on the right path when breeding.A house is not a home without a Yorkie !!!
