Im a nurse, not a vet but just for reference bright red blood usually indicates a lower GI bleed like maybe an intestinal problem and brown, or blood that isn't so red indicates that its something in the something or upper intestines. I would still take him in to get checked, especially if its an ulcer or something like that.
when I brought my pups home and changed their food, they had mucousy poop that lasted a few days. I hope your guy gets better soon~
