another alternative is the indoor doggie plastic grass system. I actually use this in my backyard on the patio by the door so it's an all weather spot, I take her to her spot each time to pee and poo, she gets a treat if she goes on the grass, doesn't get a treat if she goes anywhere else. For us this was an easy solution for clean up and it's portable for travel, you rinse the tray and grass stuff out as you go. It holds a lot of pee in the tray below the grass. I also use vinegar to break down the urine odor when she did have accidents on my carpet, as well as for all dog beds, blankets, toys whatever needs to be washed.

A friend of mine puts a pee pad in the grass system tray under the grass so she can just toss it in the wash as she has multiple dogs and it was easier than possibly spilling the tray when pulling it out washing it, but I don't do that.
