All I can say is that my son knows full well that if he were ever to do something that horrific, his mother will not be on a witness stand lying for him.
I would do just about anything to protect him from harm. What I will not do is make excuses if he breaks the law.
Enabling is probably part of the reason that Casey is who she is..not saying it is all the parents' fault; but it sure does look to me like they have been part of her problem...not part of the solution.
