As for corona vaccine, it's not even recommended for shelter dogs. You need a vet who is more up to date so glad you like the new one.
I definitely agree with using the AAHA guidelines.

I am curious as to why a vet would not do blood work? Size should really make no difference. It is always the best measurement we can get of how our pups really are doing.
