Animal Smiley 019 Just Plain Amazed

Hi everyone! I am new to YT, and also new to yorkies. We just got Toby from a previous owner who could no longer take care of him. Her friends got him for her as a gift after her husband passed away. She spoiled him with tons of toys, but just wasn't able to give him the attention he needed.

Since we've had him, he has been nothing but wonderful! I will be honest with you, I was a little reluctant in getting a Yorkie because I've just heard horror stories about potty training, being yappy, etc and I didn't know if I was ready for all that. I had just lost my previous dog of 18 years, and wasn't looking for another dog. (RIP Max)

Having had dogs previously (but hadn't had a new one in 18 years), I had trained my previous dogs myself, not taking them to obedience class or anything like that. My mom and I had taken our first dog to a class, but I was not impressed with how they taught. I am a firm believer in praise over treats. From experience, when you give a dog a treat for doing something you want him to do, he expects that treat every time, if he doesn't get one, he doesn't do what you would like him to do.

I taught Toby how to sit in like 15 mins! He is also 99% housebroken as well. He is only 5 months old. He is just extremely smart! I love it!

Is this typical for Yorkies?
