A 'reaction' or an allergy is when the body finds a foreign substance and starts attacking. Usually the body will produce histamine to fight it and that causes swelling and excess fluid. I assume he is waiting for the body to adjust to the sutures or for them to dissolve and go away. At any rate it would seem benadryl would help some but if the baby is already feeling funky it might just make her more sleepy. What an awful thing for her to have to go through.
