I would not recommend what you were talking of. These pads get very heavy when wet, therefore a washing machine does best. With mine I also use heavy bleach to keep them bright white. Without the bleach I just don't feel they are clean enough.

I have had to hand wash them kind of...while my washer was broken I took them out in the yard and hung them on a chair and used the garden hose to rinse them off. It worked beautifully and then I dried them, but there was a smell, not a bad smell, to them. Not a bad smell mind you, but strange to me because there was no bleach.

Do you have a garden hose you can use? Without a dryer, you need to hang them up until they dry...
