You are right to think this way.
I re-read some of the possible causes of Teddy's condition, and they are many and varied, including things that only an ophthalmologist is likely to diagnose.
Did your vet test for dry eye? When an eye does not produce enough tears, it will instead produce boogers/infection to try to protect the eye. Being on an antibiotic salve or drops can mask the problem.
You might be saving a lot of grief if you go ahead and call an opthalmologist Monday morning. At the very least, you will have peace of mind.
