Rope toys can cause intestinal blockages if the pup manages to eat some of the strings, as happened to more than one member here.
When Max was teething, we used stuffed animals. These require close supervision and frequent checks for damage that may allow the pup to get to the stuffing. Max chewed the butts off of quite a few Hartz stuffed dogs, lol. We always had someone with him, so he never got any stuffing.
I also sewed bones, squares, and other shapes using a tightly woven poly fabric that was almost like microfiber. The tight weave prevented Max from being able to sink his teeth in and rip the fabric easily. I put a heavy seam at the ends of the toys and these made for great chewing and rubbing against sore gums. We can't have any fuzzy fabrics because Max will chew the fibers off in seconds.
I agree with Crystal, there is no 100% safe chew in the world. Supervision is key.
