You can always tell a scam e-mail quite easily; the standard of English spelling and grammar is poor to atrocious, and the message always seems to begin 'dear valued customer'. A genuine, reputable organisation would always address its correspondence to the recipient by name.

I've had some scam messages come into my e-mail account with the message headed 'Dear Sir' - which is obviously a scam, from someone who doesn't know that I'm female!
