After I took Gracie out of the shelter & discovered that she had cataracts my vet in Ca. suggested I look into an opto as Gracie was so hyper that it would benefit her to have them removed if it werent too late & too far progressed. Gracie had severe eye infections & her eyes were completely covered in thick green gook so badly that you could not see any part of her eyes, I did not discover that she was blind till after I got her home & bathed her & cleaned her eyes. We went to see an opto but she was not a candidate for surgery as the cataracts had done too much damage to the blood vessels in the eyes. The cataract can get so thick that it will choke off the blood vessels & this will cause glaucoma to happen almost over night. I was also told that in these cases that Most of the time Glaucoma meds will not work & they did not work in Gracies case. I have been trying to find it & can't but I think it was around a year ago or so that someone here on YT has a Papillon who had cataract surgery & was successful. |
