  I agree.  I don't know how they didn't insist on knowing who the father was?  That whole scenerio seemed odd that she didn't want to say who the father was and then lied and said it was someone who died in a car crash.  I understand most parents love their children (I say most bc I've seen some awful things in hospital ER's that would really surprise you what some parents are capable of towards their own children), but when your child kills your grandchild and leaves it in the woods to be scavenged by animals I think you need to love the grandchild who was killed as much as you love and are willing to protect this nutty child.  Someone in the family needs to love Caylee enough to want the truth for her.
