I swear there has been in a change in manufacturing. My old KB putty Alex is much better quality than my newer Black Alex.

If you sew yourself, have you thought about converting an old purse? I converted a few purses to dog carriers when ZoE was a really young puppy, because I didn't want to waste money buying a really small carrier only to replace it later.
