I have always stayed with the AKC registrations for my dogs - but there are so many more now. I think the UKC seems to be more involved in competative events than the AKC, but I may be wrong.

What you need to do is look up the UKC on the Internet - there is a lot of information about it. Do you plan to show or breed your dog? If not -- I'm not sure that registration even matters.

I have always registered my dogs with the AKC -- and now with my new puppy, I am asking myself - why do I do this? I dont breed them. I don't show them. I pay money to register them for no good reason - and then put the papers in a drawer and never look at them again.

I have papers for my current puppy showing that he is a purebred and can be registered - this is good enough for me - I am not going to pay to register him. It really is a waste of my money. I'd rather buy him clothes and toys.
